2017 February Interactive Reading Calendar

1. Write 2 to 3 sentences telling how you are alike and different from the main character.
I am like Harry Potter because I'm shy around people I don't know. I am different from Harry Potter because I don't wear glasses. Also, I'm not a wizard.

The chapter about the Sorting Hat makes me think about the beginning of the school year, because I find out who my teachers are, and who my classmates are.

1. The Egyptians mummified people to take care of their Ka (soul).
2. The liver, lungs, stomach and intestines were taken out and put in canopic jars.
3. The first Egyptian mummy was called Ginger because he had red hair.

Why did the pharaoh and his sister get married and have children?

Queen Henuttawy and many other mummies were treated carelessly by embalmers. Embalmers focused on the appearance of the mummy to make up for sloppy workmanship. Both humans and animals were embalmed.
9. What made you choose this book to read? Why do you have an interest in this topic?
The title has the word creepy in it and I like creepy things. I'm interested in knowing how and why the Egyptians made mummies.

I would like to read "Let's visit Italy" because my family is Italian and I want to know more about life in Italy.

I think the setting should be in a swamp. The swamp would be dark, smelly, and weird. It would have new and scary animals and plants, with lots of water.

Harry Potter was wondering why everyone was gossiping about him. Harry and the other wizards were involved.
16. Is what you're reading believable? Why or why not?
Mostly unbelievable. Wizards and magic aren't real, and hats don't Sort. The believable parts are that people do gossip, and Harry didn't want to go into Slytherin because he didn't like Draco Malfoy.

2017 January Interactive Reading Calendar

For the month of January, we have chosen to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!

3. Write a sentence from the story that you were able to see. Draw a picture to illustrate the sentence.

Since Harry was living with his uncle and aunt, I think he will live with his grandparents next.
5. Find and record 2 words with prefixes. Write the definition of the prefix and each word.
Uneasy means not-easy. Disappeared means not there
6. Read the favorite part of your book to someone in your family. Discuss why this is your favorite part. (Mom)
9. What point of view is your book told in? List at least 2 words the narrator uses to support your answer.
 It is in third person, the person talking is talking about other people's actions. No sentences start with I or we.
10. What is the main idea of your reading today? Support with at least 2 details from the story.
The main idea of the chapter is about Dudley's birthday. The Dursleys were home and Dudley got mad because he got less presents than the year before. They also went to the zoo.

I wondered why Harry got so many letters everywhere he went.

The reason Dudley got mad is because he only had 37 presents that year.

17. Write a summary to tell me what you read about, in the order that it happened (at least 2 events).  Harry got a letter but wasn't allowed to read it. He got more and more letters, and that made Uncle Vernon mad. Harry tried many secret ways to get the letter and Uncle Vernon blocked a lot of places in the house. For every spot he blocked, new letters came from another place, so Uncle Vernon made everyone live somewhere else.
18. What do you predict will happen next? Support with at least one detail from the story.
I think someone will go to Harry's new house door and ask why Harry wasn't allowed to have his letters.

Harry wasn't allowed to have his mail. On my birthday, family that doesn't live close to me always sends me birthday mail. If it comes in early, my mom won't let me have it until my birthday.

Voldemort & Harry with the power of a wizard  is a good title because he represents Voldemort and Harry being a wizard and having powers.

The setting is at an old hut or shack in the middle of the sea.

Writer's Workshop: Character Traits

According to the text, Martin Luther King Jr was so brave, he helped Rosa Parks to get out of jail. King was also caring. For example, he fought for equality and good treatment for everyone. He was very smart, so smart that he skipped 2 grades in high school. He was so confident that he gave his ''I have a dream'' speech and he won't be forgotten.

2016 November Interactive Reading Calendar

This month we are reading from Next Top Villain!
 

1. Write a sentence that describes the conflict of your story. Be sure to add detail.
Lizzie Hearts and Duchess Swan hates dungeons but they went in one because they had to find out what was in the dungeon.
2. What do you predict will happen next in your story? Add a detail to support your prediction.
I think what will happen next is Lizzie Hearts and Duchess Swan are going to find a sign in the dungeon and it would say ways to secret portals in the dungeon.
3. Write a question that you would ask one of the characters in your book.
I would ask Lizzie Hearts and Duchess Swan why they hate dungeons and why they wanted to find out what was in the dungeon.
4. Share what happened in your book today with someone in your family.
What happened in the book today was Lizzie Hearts and Duchess Swan found a sign that lead them to either portals or secret ways to get into class's for school.

The main idea of this story/chapter is Duchess Swan and Lizzie Hearts went into a dungeon but they hate dungeons but they wanted to find out what was inside the dungeons. Turns out that inside the dungeon there was a sign that lead them to ways to secret portals to the classrooms for school.

If I  were a character I would ask Lizzie Hearts and Duchess Swan what they did in that afternoon/morning so I would find out what they did in the dungeon.

I would like to read something else by this author because the author that made ever after high next top villain is a good author and I want her/him to make more books about different things.

I would change the fact that they went into a dungeon because if Lizzie Hearts and Duchess Swan went into something that they hated why would they want to go in it if they hated it.

I feel like this story is a very good one and I would recommend it to my friends because its a wonderful book.

The setting of this story is ever after high school its a nice magical place. its a very nice place with lots of nice people.
