2017 February Interactive Reading Calendar

1. Write 2 to 3 sentences telling how you are alike and different from the main character.
I am like Harry Potter because I'm shy around people I don't know. I am different from Harry Potter because I don't wear glasses. Also, I'm not a wizard.
2. This part of the book makes me think about _____ because _____.
The chapter about the Sorting Hat makes me think about the beginning of the school year, because I find out who my teachers are, and who my classmates are.
3. Visit the library to check out a non-fiction book for next week.
Top 10 Worst Creepy Egyptian Mummies You Wouldn't Want to Meet.
6. List 2 or 3 facts you have learned that are supporting details to your topic.
1. The Egyptians mummified people to take care of their Ka (soul).
2. The liver, lungs, stomach and intestines were taken out and put in canopic jars.
3. The first Egyptian mummy was called Ginger because he had red hair.
7. Write one question you have that is related to your topic.
Why did the pharaoh and his sister get married and have children?
8. Write a 2-3 sentence summary about what you read today.
Queen Henuttawy and many other mummies were treated carelessly by embalmers. Embalmers focused on the appearance of the mummy to make up for sloppy workmanship. Both humans and animals were embalmed.
9. What made you choose this book to read? Why do you have an interest in this topic?
The title has the word creepy in it and I like creepy things. I'm interested in knowing how and why the Egyptians made mummies.
10. Write a sentence telling your teacher what non-fiction book you would like to read next. Tell why.
I would like to read "Let's visit Italy" because my family is Italian and I want to know more about life in Italy.
13. If I could talk to the author of this book, I would tell him/her _____ because _____.
If I could talk to J.K. Rowling, I would tell her that she is an amazing author because I love this book.
14. Create a new setting you think would be better for the story and describe it.
I think the setting should be in a swamp. The swamp would be dark, smelly, and weird. It would have new and scary animals and plants, with lots of water.
15. What is the conflict of your book? Which characters are involved?
Harry Potter was wondering why everyone was gossiping about him. Harry and the other wizards were involved.
16. Is what you're reading believable? Why or why not?
Mostly unbelievable. Wizards and magic aren't real, and hats don't Sort. The believable parts are that people do gossip, and Harry didn't want to go into Slytherin because he didn't like Draco Malfoy.
